The annual FIS Ski Jumping World Cup pits the very best athletes the sport has to offer against each other, in a quest to become the world's number one.
When the once glorious Aschbergschanze aged and ceased to be used, Klingenthal and its people were left without a large hill. Ideas of a reconstruction of the Großen Asch gave them some hope around the millennium, but the plans were soon shelved and they returned to another depressing limbo. Five years later however and their prayers were answered at Schwarzberg in Brunndöbra, with the construction of one of, if not the, most modern jumps in the world. The whopping project which includes a new 30,000 seat skiing arena as well as the K-125 ski jumping hill, also has facilities for cultural events and concerts.
