The first ski jumping competition at this famous old venue took place at the start of the 20th century. As early as 1908 Ski-Club Engelberg were busy constructing their own jumping facility at Sandrain. In the 1920's they built the first 'Gross Titlis-Schanze', the 'large hill' named after the local Titlis mountains. This was, however modified and later scrapped altogether after a jumper lost his life during a competition, giving way to the building of the Großtitlisschanze was inaugurated in 1972 with a competition of the Ski Jumpers Tournament. It was here, with his second jump on 102 meters, that Sepp Zehnder wrote skiing history when he landed the first one hundred meter leap in Switzerland.

Engleberg has been a constant on the Ski Jumping World Cup calendar since 1980. But this hasn't stopped the constant progression and evolution of the Großtitlisschanze, which became a K125 in 2001. Never resting on their laurels, Engleberg will always guarantee entertainment.
