The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, to give it its full title, is a bit of a mouthful. Most noteably it is famous for being a former F1 circuit, having hosted the San Marino Grand Prix for a number of years. However, it hasn't held a Formula 1 race since 2006. Despite undergoing significant redevelopment, and now holding a “1T” track rating, allowing it to host F1 tests, it is still not allowed to stage an actual F1 races. Imola holds a legendary status among former F1 circuits, perhaps infamously for being a dangerous circuit, which in one weekend in 1994 saw Rubens Barrichello launched from a kerb and knocked unconscious after colliding with a tyre barrier, before the tragic deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and three-time world champion Ayrton Senna.

Imola, as it is colloquially known, is one of the few major international circuits to run in an anti-clockwise direction, and is favoured by riders largely because of the high speeds that can be reached on various sections of the track.
